Greensboro Grasshoppers and Bowling Green Hot Rods Set Blistering Pace as South Atlantic League Enters Second Half

The mid-summer heat has arrived in the South Atlantic League (SAL), bringing with it a fiercely competitive second half of the 2026 season. As the High-A circuit turns the corner into July, two teams have separated themselves from the pack with blistering overall records, while a fresh franchise is making its mark in South Carolina.[1][4]

In the SAL North, the Greensboro Grasshoppers—the High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates—have surged to a 52-29 overall record, boasting a .642 winning percentage. Manager Jose Mosquera's squad has carried their momentum seamlessly into the second half, jumping out to an 11-4 start to seize early control of the division.[1][3]

Greensboro's dominance is built on a potent offense that has already plated 585 runs this season, giving them a staggering +74 run differential. Beyond the standings, the 2026 season marks a historic milestone for the league with the debut of the Hub City Spartanburgers.
