Delete Your Account & Data

Delete your Factlen account.

This page explains how to delete your Factlen account and the data attached to it. It applies to factlen.com and to the Factlen apps on the App Store, Google Play and the Microsoft Store. You do not need an account to read Factlen — deleting yours removes your rewards balance, your comments and your votes, and returns you to reading signed out.

Fastest route: Account → Delete Account, inside the app. Immediate and irreversible.

Lost access to the account? Email [email protected] and we complete it within 30 days.

Cancel your FactLens subscription first — deleting the account does not stop app-store billing.

Delete it yourself, from inside the app

  1. Open Factlen.
  2. Sign in with the account you want to delete, if you are not already signed in.
  3. Go to Account and choose Delete Account.
  4. Confirm on the warning prompt.

Deletion runs immediately. There is no recovery window and the account cannot be restored afterwards. On factlen.com the same control is on the Account page.

If you cannot sign in

Email [email protected] from the address linked to your Factlen account, with the subject “Delete Factlen Account”. We verify that you control the address, complete the deletion within 30 days, and confirm by email when it is done.

What is deleted

  • Your sign-in account itself — email and password, or the Google or Apple sign-in linked to it.
  • Your email address, display name and account identifier.
  • Your rewards profile: points balance, lifetime earnings, streaks and redemption history.
  • Your comments and your votes on stories, and any comment reports you filed.
  • Your saved reading state — followed topics, reading history and Listen queue held against the account.

These are erased outright, not soft-deleted.

What is kept, and for how long

  • Purchase and subscription records — held by Apple, Google and Microsoft, and by us in de-identified form, for up to 7 years where tax, accounting and fraud-prevention law requires it. They are not linked back to a deleted account for any other purpose.
  • Aggregated, anonymous analytics — up to 14 months. This carries no account identifier and cannot be traced back to you.
  • Backups — deleted records may survive in encrypted operational backups for up to 30 days before those backups roll off.
  • Published corrections and moderation records — where a comment was removed for a policy breach, the moderation record is kept without your identifiers.

Anything stored only on your device — offline articles, reader settings, Listen downloads — is removed when you delete the app.

Cancel your subscription first

Deleting your account does not cancel a FactLens membership. Billing is handled by the store you subscribed through, not by us. Cancel in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or Microsoft Store → your account, before you delete.

Deleting some data without deleting your account

You can have specific data erased and keep the account. Email [email protected] from the address linked to your account with the subject “Delete Factlen Data”, saying what to remove — for example all of your comments and votes, or your reading history — and we complete it within 30 days.

Questions about any of this are answered in the Privacy Policy.
