Suncorp Super Netball 2026 Standings: Thunderbirds Claim Minor Premiership as Mavericks Make Historic Finals Debut

The 2026 Suncorp Super Netball regular season has officially drawn to a close, locking in a thrilling four-team Finals Series that promises to be one of the most competitive in the league's history. After 14 rounds of intense, world-class netball, the ladder is set, with the Adelaide Thunderbirds standing tall as the minor premiers.[1]

The Thunderbirds cemented their status as outright premiership favorites following a blistering 18-point victory over the Sunshine Coast Lightning in the final regular round. Finishing the season with an incredible 13 wins and just a single loss, Adelaide amassed 52 ladder points to secure the top spot and crucial home-court advantage. Thunderbirds head coach Tania Obst sent a clear warning to the rest of the competition, noting that her squad has been steadily building momentum and has no intention of letting their grip on the trophy slip.[1]

Finishing second on the ladder with 40 points are the Melbourne Vixens. With 10 wins across the season, the Vixens have proven themselves to be a formidable force, setting up a blockbuster Major Semi Final clash against the Thunderbirds. The two heavyweights will face off at the Adelaide 36ers Arena on Sunday, June 21, with the winner earning a direct ticket to the Grand Final.[1]

While the top of the table features familiar powerhouses, the most uplifting story of the 2026 season belongs to the Melbourne Mavericks. In a landmark achievement for the young franchise, the Mavericks have secured fourth place on the ladder with 36 points, qualifying for the Finals Series for the first time in club history. The milestone comes after a season of remarkable resilience, as the team overcame significant hurdles, including a season-ending ACL injury to Tara Hinchliffe and the late withdrawal of Molly Jovic due to pregnancy.[2]

Mavericks General Manager Shae Bolton-Brown expressed immense pride in the squad's historic run, noting that some of the athletes had only played together for a few months before the season began. Head Coach Gerard Murphy, in his first season at the helm, successfully molded a diverse roster into a cohesive, finals-bound unit. The Mavericks will travel to Perth to face the West Coast Fever in the Minor Semi Final. The Fever secured third place and the vital hosting rights for this elimination clash after a dramatic final-round victory over the Vixens. In a nail-biting finish, a brilliant intercept by Zoe Cransberg in the final minute sealed a nine-goal win for the Fever, ensuring they would play in front of their passionate home crowd at RAC Arena.

Mavericks captain Amy Parmenter acknowledged the challenge of heading west but emphasized the team's excitement. "It will be a sea of green in front of a parochial and loud Fever crowd," Parmenter said, adding that the Mavericks have proven they can compete with the best and are fully embracing the opportunity to play finals netball.

The Finals Series format ensures high stakes across the board. The loser of the Major Semi Final between the Thunderbirds and Vixens will receive a second chance, facing the winner of the Fever-Mavericks elimination bout in the Preliminary Final. Ultimately, the two surviving teams will converge on Melbourne's John Cain Arena on Saturday, July 4, to battle for the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball championship.[1]
