The IMF report outlines three distinct forms of digital money that will compete to serve as the ultimate settlement asset in this new ecosystem. Tokenized bank deposits will digitize existing commercial liabilities; stablecoins will offer global reach backed by private reserves; and tokenized central bank reserves will provide risk-free settlement directly on programmable ledgers.
