The next time you drop your smartphone, the cost to fix that shattered screen will no longer be dictated solely by the company that manufactured it. For decades, the technology industry has operated on a linear, disposable model: build sealed devices, restrict access to spare parts, and force consumers into expensive authorized repairs or premature upgrades. But that era of planned obsolescence is rapidly closing.
