UCI WorldTour Team Standings: Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe Eclipses Visma as Cycling's New Second Superpower
UAE Team Emirates has effectively clinched the 2026 team title by August, but the real story is Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe successfully usurping Team Visma | Lease a Bike for the number two spot.

- Red Bull Management
- Views their rise to second as validation of their massive financial investment and aggressive transfer strategy.
- Visma Loyalists
- Attributes the team's drop in the standings entirely to catastrophic injuries rather than a decline in squad quality.
- Neutral Analysts
- Focuses on the massive gap between UAE Team Emirates and the rest of the peloton, viewing the battle for second as a distant subplot.
The mid-August UCI WorldTour Team Rankings update confirmed what the peloton has suspected all summer: the hierarchy of professional cycling has fundamentally changed. While UAE Team Emirates continues to operate in an untouchable stratosphere, amassing nearly 24,000 points to effectively clinch the 2026 team title, the battle beneath them has seen a definitive changing of the guard.[1][7]
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe has officially pulled clear of Team Visma | Lease a Bike to claim the title of cycling's second superpower. As of the latest update, the German-registered squad holds second place with 18,689.5 points, keeping the Dutch powerhouse at bay in third with 16,787.6 points.[1][3]
This nearly 2,000-point gap represents a massive and immediate return on investment for Red Bull, who entered the sport with heavy financial backing and the blockbuster signing of Belgian star Remco Evenepoel.[4][7]
Evenepoel, who now earns a reported €6.6 million annually, has delivered consistently across the calendar. He currently sits second in the individual rankings behind only Tadej Pogačar, and his recent victory at the Clásica San Sebastián provided a crucial points haul that helped Red Bull extend their advantage over Visma.[4][7]
For Team Visma | Lease a Bike, the drop to third is a bitter pill after years of Grand Tour dominance. The squad's season has been severely derailed by injuries, most notably to two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard, who will not race again in 2026 following his early-season crash and subsequent Tour withdrawal.[1][5]
For Team Visma | Lease a Bike, the drop to third is a bitter pill after years of Grand Tour dominance.
Despite Wout van Aert's recent resurgence—including three stage wins and the overall title at the Tour of Denmark—Visma has been unable to close the gap on the surging Red Bull squad. The absence of Vingegaard's usual massive points haul from the high mountains has left them vulnerable to Red Bull's deep and versatile roster.[1][7]
Further down the table, a fierce battle for fourth place is unfolding between Decathlon CMA CGM Team and Lidl-Trek. Decathlon currently holds the edge with 14,948.2 points, driven by the consistency of young phenom Paul Seixas and Felix Gall, who recently won the overall classification at the Vuelta a Burgos.[1][2]
Lidl-Trek trails in fifth with 13,425.2 points. The American squad was hampered slightly by Mads Pedersen's absence from the Danish home race, though they remain well clear of the chasing pack led by XDS Astana and Bahrain Victorious.[1][7]
At the bottom of the WorldTour table, the promotion and relegation battle is heating up. Uno-X Mobility has successfully leaped into 11th place, while Tudor Pro Cycling jumped two spots to 17th, pushing teams like Lotto-Intermarché and Cofidis closer to the danger zone.[1]
