The U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry is projected to attract more than $1 trillion in supply chain investment by 2040, driven by a massive expansion in export capacity over the next five years. The economic multiplier effect of this expansion is expected to be unprecedented. Through 2040, the industry is projected to contribute $1.4 trillion cumulatively to the U.S. gross domestic product. The $1 trillion in capital expenditures will generate an estimated $2.9 trillion in business revenues, $206 billion in federal and state tax receipts, and nearly $630 billion in labor income.[2][6]

The analysis indicates that 42 percent of the supported jobs and 33 percent of the GDP contributions will occur in non-gas-producing states, driven by nationwide demand for steel, engineering services, and manufacturing components. The U.S. currently produces gas at a rate that has historically outpaced export growth by a factor of three, keeping the broader domestic market well-supplied.[2][4]
However, regional price stability depends entirely on the construction of new midstream infrastructure. Industry advocates note that localized price spikes are driven by pipeline bottlenecks rather than a lack of underlying supply. The U.S., which became the first country to export over 100 million metric tons of LNG in a single year in 2025, is expected to capture roughly one-third of the global market by the early 2030s.
