August 2026 has shifted the landscape of professional darts. While world number one Luke Littler rests his staggering £2.1 million lead atop the PDC Order of Merit, the Oceanic leg of the World Series of Darts has crowned new form players. The New Zealand Darts Masters and the ongoing Australian Darts Masters have provided a stage for established veterans and rising stars to stake their claim ahead of the Amsterdam finals.[2]

At the top of the power rankings sits Jonny Clayton. "The Ferret" is undeniably the hottest player in the sport right now, having captured his second World Series title at the New Zealand Darts Masters in Auckland. He delivered a devastating display of finishing to defeat compatriot Gerwyn Price 8-4 in the final, converting crucial checkouts of 158 and 124 to secure the trophy in front of 5,000 fans.[1][3]

Clayton averaged nearly 99 in his semi-final demolition of James Wade and immediately carried that momentum into Wollongong. He opened his Australian Darts Masters campaign with a clinical 6-3 victory over Ben Robb, cementing his status as the man to beat Down Under.[1][4]

Ranked second is Gerwyn Price. "The Iceman" is back to his menacing best and has regained his spot in the world's top four. Following a run to the World Matchplay final in July, Price reached the showpiece in Auckland, sweeping aside Damon Heta and Raymond Smith before falling to Clayton. He began his Australian Darts Masters bid with a ruthless 6-2 win over Simon Whitlock, highlighted by back-to-back 124 and 108 checkouts.[1][2]

Taking the third spot is James Wade, who is producing some of the most spectacular numbers of his illustrious career. After reaching the semi-finals in New Zealand, "The Machine" delivered the performance of the night in Wollongong. He averaged an astonishing 112.73 during a 6-0 sweep of Tim Pusey—the second-highest average ever recorded in a World Series event in Australia.[1]

James Wade posted a historic 112.73 average on the opening night of the Australian Darts Masters.

Gian van Veen claims the fourth position. The newly minted world number two continues to prove he belongs in the elite tier. The Dutchman reached the quarter-finals in Auckland before falling to the eventual champion. In Australia, he showcased his explosive scoring power, conjuring a spectacular 161 checkout to wrap up a 6-3 success against Raymond Smith and set up a highly anticipated quarter-final clash.[1]

Rounding out the top five is Brody Klinge, the Oceanic wildcard who has shaken up the established order. The Australian produced the performance of his life to stun Ross Smith 6-5 in Wollongong. Surviving eight maximums from Smith, Klinge registered an 11-dart break in a deciding-leg epic, celebrating the biggest victory of his career and proving the depth of talent emerging from the Oceanic circuit.

The race to the World Series Finals in Amsterdam is reaching a boiling point. Clayton and Price have significantly closed the gap on Michael van Gerwen at the top of the World Series Order of Merit, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the 2026 international roadshow.[2]

James Wade's opening round average was the second-highest in Australian World Series history.
