WorldTour Transfer Window: Lidl-Trek Secures Felix Gall as Ben Turner and Pfeiffer Georgi Headline Major 2027 Moves
Lidl-Trek has signed Austrian climber Felix Gall to a three-year contract, anchoring a wave of major September transfers that includes Ben Turner joining Soudal Quick-Step and Pfeiffer Georgi moving to UAE Team L'IMAD.

The 2027 UCI WorldTour arms race just hit a new gear. With the transfer window wide open, a flurry of September blockbuster deals has fundamentally rewired the peloton's balance of power. At the center of the shakeup is Lidl-Trek, who just secured one of the most coveted climbing assets on the open market: 28-year-old Austrian phenom Felix Gall. The signing sends a clear message that the American-registered squad is building a roster capable of challenging the sport's dominant super-teams across three-week stage races.[1][7]
Gall inked a lucrative three-year contract through 2029, leaving Decathlon CMA CGM after a spectacular 2026 campaign that saw him finish third overall at the Vuelta a España and second at the Giro d'Italia. He isn't arriving alone. Lidl-Trek also scooped up his compatriot and trusted mountain lieutenant, 32-year-old Gregor Mühlberger, on a two-year deal. The dual acquisition instantly fortifies Lidl-Trek's high-altitude support network, ensuring Gall will have a dedicated wingman when the gradients pitch upward in the Alps and Pyrenees.[1]
The stakes for Lidl-Trek are massive, and the front office knows it. CEO Andy Schleck made it clear that this is a championship-or-bust move for the organization. 'Felix has truly grown into his role as a GC leader,' Schleck said, noting that Gall's double Grand Tour podiums proved he belongs among the absolute elite. 'We believe there is still so much more to come.' Gall will now share leadership duties with Juan Ayuso and Mattias Skjelmose, creating a three-pronged GC trident.[1]
Over on the cobbles, the Classics market saw its own earthquake this week. British powerhouse Ben Turner is walking away from Netcompany-Ineos after five seasons to sign a three-year deal with Soudal Quick-Step. The 27-year-old, who boasts a 2025 Vuelta a España stage win and an impressive 11th-place finish at his Paris-Roubaix debut, is stepping right into the heart of the Belgian squad's revamped one-day racing core. The move signals Soudal Quick-Step's renewed commitment to dominating the grueling spring monuments after a transitional period.[2][5]
For Turner, the transfer is deeply personal and represents the culmination of a lifelong ambition. 'It is naturally a great privilege for me to join Soudal Quick-Step, a team I always dreamed of riding for when I was a child and watched the classics with my father,' Turner said. Soudal Quick-Step CEO Jurgen Foré praised Turner's gritty profile, calling him a perfect fit for the team's aggressive 'Wolfpack' identity. Foré emphasized that Turner's versatility will allow him to impact both one-day races and Grand Tour stages.[2][5]
The Women's WorldTour is seeing an equally seismic shift as the peloton's top tier reloads for 2027. Pfeiffer Georgi, the three-time British national champion and one of the sport's premier one-day racers, is leaving Picnic-PostNL after an eight-year tenure. The 25-year-old signed a three-year contract with UAE Team L'IMAD, bringing a resume that includes a Paris-Roubaix Femmes podium and a Brugge-De Panne victory. Her departure leaves a massive tactical void at Picnic-PostNL, where she had evolved into an irreplaceable road captain and lead-out specialist.[3][6]
Georgi is betting on a change of scenery to unlock her absolute ceiling and capture a Monument victory. 'I have been in the same team for my eight years as a professional and am excited to enter a new environment at this point in my career,' she explained. She pointed to the brutal, punchy climbs and treacherous cobblestones of the spring calendar as her ultimate proving ground, noting that UAE Team L'IMAD offers the exact infrastructure needed to support her aggressive racing style.[3][6]
Meanwhile, the veteran market remains highly active as teams look for experienced road captains. French climber Guillaume Martin secured a one-year contract with Lotto-Intermarché, officially departing Groupama-FDJ. The 33-year-old, fresh off a resilient 11th-place overall finish at the 2026 Vuelta a España, is returning to the Jean-François Bourlart-managed structure where he cut his teeth from 2016 to 2019. Martin brings immense tactical value to a roster that is heavily invested in developing the next generation of Belgian talent.[4]
Martin is stepping into a crucial dual role for the 2027 campaign. He will hunt for his own Grand Tour top-10 finishes while serving as the tactical anchor for Lotto-Intermarché's younger riders in high-pressure situations. 'In certain races, I'll have the opportunity to pursue my own ambitions, while at the same time I want to share my experience,' Martin said. With these September contracts signed, the tactical blueprints for 2027 are officially locked in. The real test begins when the flag drops in January.[4]
