Colerinsec Recalls 38,500 Jerify Magnetic Toys Following Child Hospitalizations

The manufacturer marketed the Jerify magnetic stick figures as a creative building tool for children, selling tens of thousands of units on Amazon as a safe, bendable playset. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), however, classifies the exact same product as a severe ingestion hazard that violates federal safety standards, pointing to the high-powered magnets that can detach from the figures' hands and feet.[1]

That regulatory stance became a formal recall on September 18, 2026, when the CPSC announced that Colerinsec is recalling roughly 38,500 of the Jerify magnetic humanoid toy sets. The agency took action after receiving reports that two children required surgery after swallowing the small, powerful magnets housed within the toys.[1][2][3]

"When two or more high-powered magnets are swallowed, they can attract to one another, or to another metal object, and become lodged in the digestive system," the CPSC stated in its official recall notice. The agency warned that this internal attraction can result in perforations, twisting, or blockage of the intestines, leading to infection, blood poisoning, or death.[1]

The recalled products were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from December 2021 through July 2023, retailing for between $10 and $13. The sets came in various colors and featured small, humanoid figures with magnetic hands and feet designed to connect to one another or to metal surfaces.[1][5]

According to the recall notice, the magnets do not comply with the mandatory federal toy regulation because they fit within the CPSC's small parts cylinder—a testing device used to determine if an object poses a choking hazard to children under three—and possess a magnetic flux index stronger than permitted by law.[1]

The hospitalization of the two children underscores a long-standing pediatric concern regarding rare-earth magnets. When manufacturers embed these small, high-strength neodymium magnets into plastic casings, the friction and impact of normal play can dislodge them, leaving small, shiny metal pieces accessible to toddlers who frequently put objects in their mouths.[4]

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled magnetic toys, take them away from children, and contact Colerinsec for a full refund," the CPSC advised. The agency instructed owners to dispose of the toys if they do not wish to seek a refund, emphasizing that the products should not be donated or resold under any circumstances.[1]

Colerinsec, operating out of China, is notifying all known purchasers directly through Amazon's messaging platform. The recall highlights the ongoing friction between direct-to-consumer e-commerce platforms, which allow overseas manufacturers to reach American households instantly, and federal regulators tasked with enforcing domestic safety standards after the products have already shipped.[1][5]
