Eighty-four degrees and seventy percent humidity at kickoff is enough to blunt any road team's edge, but the Seattle Sounders arrived at Toyota Stadium carrying a nine-match unbeaten streak. That momentum evaporated in the 63rd minute on Wednesday night. A perfectly struck volley from midfielder Kaick handed FC Dallas a 1-0 victory and snapped the hottest run in Major League Soccer.[1][2][6]
The result fundamentally alters the Western Conference playoff picture as the regular season wanes. Dallas clinched an Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoff berth in just thirty games, beating their previous season's pace by four matches. Seattle, meanwhile, remains stranded in seventh place with forty-one points, their four-match winning streak abruptly halted.[2][5]
Despite the final scoreline, Seattle dictated the terms of engagement through the first forty-five minutes. The Sounders generated 1.18 expected goals to Dallas's 0.54 before the break, repeatedly testing the Dallas backline. Striker Dejan Joveljić found himself in dangerous positions early, forcing three critical saves from Dallas goalkeeper Daniel De Sousa Britto.[3][6]
Seattle’s best opportunity to seize control arrived in the nineteenth minute. Midfielder Albert Rusnák whipped a bending free kick into the six-yard box, finding the outstretched foot of Jackson Ragen. The center-back made contact, but Daniel reacted instantly to parry the attempt away, keeping the match scoreless.[2][6]
Dallas absorbed the relentless pressure, content to let Seattle smash themselves against a defensive wall that has now secured seven shutouts this season. Neither head coach Eric Quill nor Brian Schmetzer provided post-match quotes in the immediate aftermath, but the tactical shift was evident. The home side emerged from the locker room with renewed aggression.[1][2][5]
The decisive sequence began with a Stuart Hawkins block that conceded a Dallas corner kick. Cristian Roldan managed to head away the initial service, but the clearance fell directly to Dallas defender Osaze Urhoghide. Urhoghide immediately headed the ball back toward the top of the penalty area.[6]
Waiting at the edge of the box was Kaick, who took the ball cleanly out of the air. The Brazilian struck a vicious volley that smashed into the top left corner, leaving Seattle goalkeeper Andrew Thomas with no chance. It was Kaick’s fourth goal of the campaign and an instant classic for the Frisco crowd.[1][2][6]
Following the breakthrough, Seattle chased the game but struggled to break down a resolute Dallas block. The Sounders outshot their hosts eight to four in the final half-hour, yet only a seventy-fifth-minute strike from Snyder Brunell forced Daniel into action. The Brazilian goalkeeper finished the night with seven saves.[1][6]
Daniel’s performance earned him his third clean sheet in six starts since joining Dallas from the San Jose Earthquakes. His heroics ensured Dallas defeated the Sounders at home for the first time since May 2022. The victory also secured a historic milestone for the Texas club.[1][3]
With the three points, FC Dallas guaranteed a winning record both at home and on the road in the same season. The franchise has not achieved that dual feat since 2010, the year they advanced to the MLS Cup Final. Sporting Director André Zanotta also celebrated his hundredth victory across all competitions.[4]
