Explora Journeys Signs Letter of Intent to Enter European Luxury River Cruise Market

Explora Journeys, the luxury ocean brand of the Geneva-based MSC Group, has signed a letter of intent with the Netherlands-based Den Breejen Shipyard to construct a fleet of luxury river cruise ships. The agreement marks the operator's formal expansion from deep-water voyages to Europe's inland waterways, with initial sales for the new itineraries scheduled to open in 2027. The move signals a strategic shift for the company, aiming to capture a larger share of the affluent travel market by offering destination-intensive European routes.[2][5][6]

This existing expertise is critical for the new venture, as building for inland waterways requires specialized engineering to maximize passenger comfort and luxury amenities within the strict physical parameters dictated by European infrastructure.[5]
