The Colorado Rapids survived a late defensive collapse and a straight red card to extend their home unbeaten streak to nine matches, battling Minnesota United to a chaotic 2-2 draw on Wednesday night. The result leaves Colorado clinging to ninth place in the Western Conference with 38 points, while Minnesota remains stranded in 13th.[1]

The defining sequence arrived in the 83rd minute, unraveling Colorado's hard-fought advantage. Rapids goalkeeper Nico Hansen raced off his line to challenge a loose ball, losing his footing in the process. Minnesota played a low cross into the chaotic penalty area, where Colorado defender Loïc Williams misplayed his clearance.

As Williams fell to the ground, the ball bounced up and deflected off his left thigh into the empty net. That late equalizer punished a Colorado side that had been forced to play a man down for the final 22 minutes of the match.

Substitute Sayed Abu Farkhi, who entered in the 60th minute, was shown a straight red card in the 68th after tangling with Minnesota's Michael Boxall on the sideline. Video review confirmed Abu Farkhi struck Boxall in the face, instantly shifting the tactical balance and forcing Colorado into a defensive posture.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Rapids briefly looked poised to steal all three points. In the 74th minute, Kosi Thompson drove down the right flank and fired a low cross that deflected off Minnesota goalkeeper Drake Callender.[1]

Georgi Minoungou pounced on the rebound, steering the ball across the line with his body for his first career MLS goal and a 2-1 lead. It was a stunning counter-punch from a team that had just reshuffled its lineup to survive the final stretch.[1]

Minnesota had previously leveled the match early in the second half through their most reliable attacking threat, punishing a careless defensive mistake. In the 52nd minute, Kelvin Yeboah intercepted a soft backward pass from Colorado's Morgan Whittaker in the attacking third.

The 26-year-old forward took one touch to break in alone on Hansen before sliding a composed finish into the lower right corner. The strike marked Yeboah's career-high 16th goal of the season, extending his remarkable streak of goal contributions to nine consecutive games.

"A cross like that deserves a finish like that," the Rapids' official social media account posted after Colorado's opening goal. That breakthrough came in first-half stoppage time, when Keegan Rosenberry curled an inswinging cross to the edge of the six-yard box.[1]

Darren Yapi met Rosenberry's delivery with a thumping low volley, directing the ball into the right side of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 halftime advantage. The home side had dominated possession for most of the first half, testing both flanks before finally finding their reward.[1]

The draw extends a miserable run of form for Minnesota United, who are now winless in their last eight matches with five losses in that span. The Loons dominated the late stages but could not find a winner against the depleted Rapids defense, leaving their postseason hopes hanging by a thread.[2]

Colorado now faces a quick turnaround as they travel to face the Portland Timbers on Saturday. While the Rapids managed to preserve their unbeaten run at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, the dropped points at home represent a missed opportunity to climb the congested Western Conference standings.[1]
