Reliance Industries has unveiled a sweeping strategy to weave artificial intelligence directly into the daily lives of more than 500 million Indians. At the conglomerate's 49th Annual General Meeting on Friday, Chairman Mukesh Ambani and Jio Platforms Managing Director Akash Ambani detailed a roadmap that shifts AI from standalone smartphone apps to the core of the telecom network itself.[1][4]
The centerpiece of the announcement is the "Jio Call Agent," a native AI voice assistant embedded directly into the Jio network. Instead of downloading a separate application, users can simply say "Hey Jio" during any standard phone call to summon the AI.[2][3]
Once activated with user consent, the assistant can transcribe the conversation in real-time, identify up to 10 different speakers on a conference call, and generate actionable summaries. It can also execute tasks mid-conversation, such as booking a cab, ordering food, or scheduling a meeting, without requiring the user to switch screens or open other apps.[5]
"Across the world, AI is an app on the phone. Jio is doing something fundamentally different. We are building AI directly into the heart of the network," Akash Ambani told shareholders. The service will roll out to Jio's subscriber base later this year.[3]
The integration extends beyond phone calls. The company announced that its MyJio app, currently used by over 600 million customers, is being overhauled into a proactive personal AI advisor. Users will be able to converse naturally with the app to manage their accounts, activate eSIMs, or select international roaming plans.[1][5]

A critical differentiator in Reliance's strategy is its linguistic approach. The company unveiled a suite of sector-specific AI platforms—including JioHealthIQ, JioLearnIQ, and JioKrishiIQ for farmers—built natively in 22 Indian languages.[4]

To power this massive rollout, Reliance is constructing what it calls India's "sovereign AI backbone." The company is building a massive AI data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, which will be powered entirely by renewable solar energy from its Kutch generation facilities.
The first 120-megawatt phase of the Jamnagar facility is slated for completion by the end of 2026. It will deploy Nvidia's latest GB300 GPUs, providing computing power equivalent to more than 75,000 H100 GPUs initially, with plans to eventually scale beyond 200,000 H100-equivalent units.
To execute this vision, Reliance has forged strategic partnerships with global tech giants including Google, Meta, and Nvidia. However, Mukesh Ambani emphasized that the ultimate goal is technological independence.[4]
"I firmly believe that India should not be a mere consumer of AI created elsewhere. It must become a creator, adopter, and a global leader in AI," the elder Ambani stated, calling for AI and energy self-sufficiency to become national missions.[1][4]
The network-level integration of AI has inevitably raised questions about data privacy. Reliance executives stressed that user consent remains central to the architecture. The AI agent will only join calls when explicitly invited, and sensitive actions like payments will require separate, explicit confirmation.[2][5]
Industry analysts view the move as a formidable competitive moat. By embedding AI into the infrastructure layer, Reliance is positioning itself not just as a telecom provider, but as the default digital interface for the world's most populous nation.[3]
