The Aquiry civilization, named after the Indigenous Arawakan word for the Acre River, first emerged around 600 B.C.E. According to the archaeological evidence, they lived in villages averaging about 300 inhabitants, residing in multi-family longhouses. They were sophisticated farmers, cultivating crops like squash, maize, and manioc, while actively managing the forest to grow Brazil nut trees and peach palms.[1][2]
