Felix Bautista is finally heading back to the mound. The Baltimore Orioles' towering closer, affectionately known across baseball as "The Mountain," has been cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Chesapeake on Sunday. It marks his first appearance in a game setting since undergoing extensive shoulder surgery in August 2025. For a pitcher who has battled back from two separate major arm surgeries in three years, Sunday's minor-league outing is more than just a standard rehab step—it is the culmination of immense resilience and a grueling rehabilitation process that has kept him away from the major leagues for the better part of two seasons.[2][3]

He progressed to throwing on flat ground earlier this year before finally advancing to live batting practice in early August. "Having those two big injuries, arm injuries, that's really tough to come back from," Orioles manager Craig Albernaz noted during a recent media availability.
