Apple Releases iOS 27 Beta 2, Introducing 'Write with Siri' and Deeper AI Integration

Apple has officially released the second developer beta of iOS 27, giving testers their first hands-on look at the next wave of Apple Intelligence features. Arriving two weeks after the operating system's debut at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the update focuses heavily on refining the iPhone's artificial intelligence capabilities and smoothing out early bugs.[1][2]

The standout addition in beta 2 is "Write with Siri," a system-wide text generation tool that replaces the standalone Writing Tools panel introduced in earlier software versions. Rather than relying on a separate menu with rigid buttons for "Friendly" or "Professional" tones, the new system is deeply integrated into the iOS keyboard.

When a user opens an app with standard text fields, such as Notes or Mail, a prominent "Write with Siri" button now appears in the keyboard's suggestion bar. Tapping it expands an input field from the Dynamic Island, allowing users to type natural-language requests to draft new content, proofread existing text, or rewrite a document entirely.

Because the tool is tied directly to the rebuilt Siri AI, it can draw on personal context to inform its writing. Furthermore, users do not even need to touch the keyboard to initiate an edit. Thanks to Siri's new on-screen awareness, a user can simply speak their request out loud, and the assistant will automatically understand that the command applies to the currently active text field.

If a user asks Siri to rewrite a paragraph, the system generates the changes and presents a review panel at the bottom of the screen. This interface provides a before-and-after snapshot of the text, quick undo controls, and an option to continue refining the draft with follow-up voice commands.

Beyond text generation, iOS 27 beta 2 continues to refine the visual experience of the new Siri AI. The traditional glowing orb at the bottom of the screen has been replaced by a translucent, edge-to-edge animation that indicates when the assistant is listening. Apple has also tweaked the interface for the "Type to Siri" feature, making the cursor slightly less bright and adjusting the transparency of the underlying "Liquid Glass" design language.[2]

While artificial intelligence dominates the update, beta 2 also introduces several practical quality-of-life improvements across the Apple ecosystem. In the Apple Home app, users can now update the software on their Apple TV remotely, mirroring the existing update process for HomePod speakers.[1]

The Apple Wallet app is also seeing an expansion, with its new "Insights" feature rolling out to more users in the United States. Meanwhile, cross-platform communication continues to improve; the Messages app's Rich Communication Services (RCS) implementation now supports inline replies when texting with Android users, bridging another gap in the green-bubble divide.

Testers have also noted that iPhone Mirroring—a feature that allows users to control their phone from a Mac running macOS 27 Golden Gate—is significantly more reliable in this build, resolving crash issues that plagued the initial release. Additionally, a firmware update bug affecting AirPods Max users has been patched.

Despite the exciting new capabilities, not all iPhone owners will have access to the full suite of features. While iOS 27 itself will install on devices as old as the iPhone 11, the advanced Siri AI and Apple Intelligence tools require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Apple's most advanced on-device models, which power features like customizable voice pacing and expressivity, will be exclusive to the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air.

Currently, iOS 27 beta 2 is only available to registered developers, and Apple strongly advises against installing it on primary devices due to expected bugs and battery drain. A more stable public beta is slated for release in July, with the final version expected to launch for all users this fall alongside the next generation of iPhones.[2]
