The era of the "remote control" foldable is ending. Samsung Electronics is fundamentally redesigning its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, abandoning the tall, narrow aspect ratio that has defined the series since its inception in favor of a wider 4:3 internal canvas.[1]
The shift, confirmed by supply chain leaks and industry analysts this weekend, represents the most significant hardware pivot in Samsung's foldable history. By adopting the 4:3 ratio, the Z Fold 8 will feature a much wider, more traditional cover display—directly addressing the most persistent consumer complaint about the device's usability when closed.
But the redesign is only half the story. Samsung is also splitting its flagship foldable strategy into a dual-tier system, introducing a standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 alongside a premium "Ultra" variant.
