Six years and 23 major patches after its turbulent launch, CD Projekt Red is still overhauling the mechanics of Cyberpunk 2077. Update 2.5, officially dubbed the Edgerunners 2 Update, rolls out to players on October 22, 2026. The free patch delivers a substantial slate of additions, ranging from new narrative quests to fundamental combat changes.[2][4]

The release is timed to coincide with the October 20 premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix. To bridge the game and the animated series, the studio introduced "Clampdown," a prequel side quest that features returning voice actors from the show.[1]

To access the "Clampdown" mission, players must have already completed "The Heist" and finished at least two gigs for the fixer Wakako Okada. Once those prerequisites are met, Wakako will send a message that initiates the prequel storyline and introduces the new characters.[1]

Players who finish the new narrative arc can earn a five-piece gear set based on the anime's new character, King. The update also adds a dedicated radio station, HKGN 102.0 FM, which broadcasts tracks directly from both seasons of the Netflix series while players drive through Night City.[2]

A major mechanical shift arrives via the "Double Trouble" perk, located in the game's Cool skill tree. The ability finally allows players to dual-wield power pistols and revolvers in combat. Game director Pawel Sasko noted that the addition encourages players to buy new skills and construct completely new playstyles.[1][4]

Key features introduced in the Edgerunners 2 Update.

"You can mix and match types of weapons, including different perks," developers explained during their REDstreams broadcast. The dual-wielding system even extends to the game's Photo Mode, where players can strike specific poses with their matched handguns.[1][4]

Visual customization has also seen a significant expansion. Players can now visit specialized "Glamdocs" to alter the appearance of their arm cyberware, applying new colors and designs to equipment like Mantis Blades and Gorilla Arms.[3]

The wardrobe options have grown alongside the hardware. Five new clothing collections are now available at vendors across different city districts, and several hairstyles that were previously exclusive to non-playable characters have been unlocked for the protagonist, V.[2]

In addition to the vendor clothing, the studio is offering four new "TWINTONE" skins for the Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech vehicle, which players can unlock via Twitch Drops. Quality-of-life improvements to the inventory system, including better save organization and new stash filters, round out the interface changes.[2]

For console players, the most transformative addition is the integration of cross-platform mod support. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S users can now browse, download, and install community-created modifications directly through an in-game menu, mirroring a system CD Projekt Red previously implemented for The Witcher 3.[1][4]

The technical upgrades extend to quality-of-life features that the community has requested for years. Console versions finally include a field-of-view slider, while PC players receive support for Nvidia's DLSS 4.5 upscaling technology to improve ray-tracing performance.[4]

While the patch launches simultaneously across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the Nintendo Switch 2 version will arrive a few days later. Early patch notes indicate that the Nintendo port will not launch with the new mod support, though it remains unclear if the feature will be added later.[1]

Beyond the anime tie-ins and combat tweaks, the studio introduced a unique mission called "Night City Tours." The lore-focused quest features a digital guide voiced by Richard Night, the fictional founder of the metropolis, who leads players through various historical landmarks.[1][4]

Developers described the tour as a "cozy" experience, but warned players to watch out for dissonance between the guide's historical claims and the real world. The quest reportedly hides a deeper mystery and several secrets designed specifically for veteran players who have already spent hundreds of hours in the game.[1][4]

The sheer scale of Update 2.5 has surprised a community that believed the game's development cycle had concluded. Following the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion, CD Projekt Red had previously signaled that major content updates were finished as the studio shifted resources to its next projects.[4]

The studio has developed a reputation for dropping free content without warning, leaving fans to wonder if Night City might still have a few more surprises left. As Forbes noted following the broadcast, the scope of the new additions may be enough to inspire yet another full playthrough.[2][4]
