But standard xG has a glaring blind spot: it completely ignores what happens after the player makes contact with the ball. A scuffed shot that rolls harmlessly into the goalkeeper's arms and a blistering strike into the top corner are valued identically if they are taken from the exact same blade of grass.

The limitation of PSxG, however, is that it only exists for shots on target.
