The NFC North is officially the most dangerous neighborhood in professional football. Entering Week 7 of the 2026 season, the division boasts four teams with winning records and a combined 16-6 mark. While the undefeated Minnesota Vikings sit at the summit, the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers are surging fast in the rearview mirror.[1][4]
Chicago and Green Bay both improved to 4-2 with emphatic prime-time victories last weekend. Their ascendance has transformed the division into a weekly gauntlet, leaving the 3-2 Detroit Lions fighting just to keep pace. For a league defined by parity, the concentration of firepower in the North is staggering.[1][4]
"The NFC North has become must-see TV for football fans who love rivalries and competitive division races," notes former NFL scout Bucky Brooks. With all four rosters brimming with blue-chip talent, the race for the division crown is shaping up to be a brutal, months-long slugfest.[1]
Caleb Williams Ignites the Bears
The biggest story of the weekend was the triumphant return of Caleb Williams. After missing three games with a hamstring injury, the Chicago quarterback delivered an absolute masterclass in a 31-23 road victory over the Atlanta Falcons. The performance immediately vaulted the Bears back into the Super Bowl conversation.[2][3]
Williams completed 30 of 36 passes for 305 yards and a touchdown, good for a staggering 83.3 percent completion rate. That mark set a new franchise record for any Bears quarterback attempting at least 30 passes in a single game. He earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his clinical dissection of the Atlanta secondary.[3]
"Caleb Williams was stellar in his return to the offense, opening up everything that was trapped," noted the Chicago Bears' official site. His +12.4 percent completion rate over expected highlighted just how heavily he elevated the offensive unit. With Williams healthy, Chicago looks like a completely different operation.[2][3]
The Bears' defense also received a massive boost from returning nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon. In just 17 snaps against the Falcons, Gordon recorded three sacks and forced two fumbles. That kind of complementary dominance makes Chicago a terrifying matchup heading into their Thursday night clash with the New England Patriots.[7]
Jordan Love Keeps Green Bay Rolling
Not to be outdone, the Green Bay Packers secured their third consecutive victory by dismantling the Dallas Cowboys 23-13 on Sunday Night Football. Quarterback Jordan Love continued his breakout 2026 campaign, throwing for a touchdown and rushing for another to put the game out of reach early.[5]
Love has been a model of consistency, completing 60 percent of his throws for 1,684 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just four interceptions through six weeks. He currently ranks as the overall QB6 in fantasy football, consistently producing multi-touchdown games while protecting the football.[6][8]
"It's just dealing with a sore back from the game," Love told reporters on Wednesday, brushing off an injury designation after taking three sacks against Dallas. "One of those things, we'll just take it day by day." He fully expects to be under center for Green Bay's pivotal Week 7 showdown.[6]
The Packers' defense has been equally vital to their 4-2 start. Green Bay picked off Dak Prescott twice on Sunday night, bringing their season total to 11 takeaways. That opportunistic secondary currently leads the league in turnovers forced, matching the Seattle Seahawks.[5]
Chasing the Undefeated Vikings
Despite the fireworks in Chicago and Green Bay, the road to the division title still runs through Minnesota. The Vikings are a flawless 5-0, resting on a Week 6 bye while the rest of the division beat each other up. They remain the NFC's undisputed No. 1 seed.[1][4]
Minnesota's dominance is built on a suffocating defense orchestrated by coordinator Brian Flores. His heavy use of Cover 0 pressures and unique blitz packages has routinely forced opposing quarterbacks into drive-killing mistakes. The Vikings have allowed just 64 points all season, boasting a massive +45 point differential.[1][4]
Waiting in the wings are the 3-2 Detroit Lions, who host the Packers this Sunday at Ford Field. Detroit quarterback Jared Goff is tied for fourth in the NFL with 12 passing touchdowns, while running back Jahmyr Gibbs sits near the top of the league in rushing scores.[5]
