Watford has bolstered its attacking options by signing 27-year-old Senegal international Krépin Diatta on a free transfer. The move brings a player with 42 international caps and extensive European experience to Vicarage Road as the Hornets push for a return to the Premier League.[1]
Diatta arrives following the expiration of his contract with Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, where he spent three and a half seasons. During his time in the principality, he made 85 appearances across all competitions, contributing 12 goals and 15 assists.[3][4]
"We are thrilled to welcome Krépin to the club," Watford sporting director Cristiano Giaretta said in a statement. "His pedigree at both the international and European club level speaks for itself, and his versatility will be a massive asset for us in a grueling Championship season".[1]
A Championship Coup
The signing represents a significant coup for the Championship club. Diatta, who can operate on either flank or as an attacking midfielder, was reportedly tracked by several top-flight European clubs before opting for the move to England.[2][5]
His arrival provides immediate depth and quality to a Watford squad looking to solidify its position in the promotion race. The Hornets currently sit sixth in the Championship table, four points off the automatic promotion spots after 10 matches.
Diatta's career trajectory has seen him develop from a highly-rated prospect at Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08 to a key figure for Club Brugge in Belgium, where he won two league titles before his €16 million move to Monaco in January 2021.[3][4]
International Pedigree
Internationally, Diatta has been a consistent presence for Senegal since his debut in 2019. He was part of the squad that reached the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and featured in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.[2]
