A 2020 review from the George Lucas Educational Foundation highlighted that teachers who hold an entity theory of intelligence are more likely to comfort struggling students by lowering standards or assigning easier work. This inadvertently signals to the student that the teacher believes they lack the capacity to improve, reinforcing the exact fixed mindset the school is attempting to dismantle.

When students are taught that the brain physically changes in response to rigorous learning—that neurons form new synapses and strengthen existing ones through myelination—they are more likely to adopt the growth mindset.
