Mercedes-Benz Unveils the 2028 VLE, an Electric 'Grand Limousine' Disguised as a Minivan

The concept of a 'living room on wheels' has long been a cliché in automotive design, usually reserved for autonomous concept cars that never see production. But Mercedes-Benz is bringing that vision to reality with the 2028 VLE, an all-electric luxury vehicle that aims to redefine high-end group transport.[1]

The VLE is the first vehicle built on Mercedes' new VAN.EA platform, a clean-sheet 800-volt electric architecture designed from the ground up rather than adapted from an existing combustion-engine chassis.[3][4]

On the road, the VLE prioritizes isolation and smoothness over sporty handling. Standard AIRMATIC air suspension continuously adjusts damping to iron out road imperfections, while keeping the tall vehicle remarkably flat through corners.[1][2]

The suspension can also lower the van by 40 millimeters to improve highway aerodynamics or raise it to clear steep driveways.[2]

Despite its imposing footprint—stretching roughly 17 feet long, making it 10 inches longer than a Mercedes GLS SUV—the VLE is surprisingly maneuverable in tight urban environments.[1][3]
