A separate 2023 trial published in the Annals of Internal Medicine tested time-restricted eating in a more real-world scenario: asking participants to eat within an eight-hour window without counting calories at all. Over six months, that group lost 4.6 kilograms, proving that the clock alone can successfully trick the brain into a caloric deficit.[3]

However, the behavioral friction of the fasting clock introduces its own hurdles. In the 2020 TREAT trial published in JAMA Internal Medicine, 41% of participants assigned to the time-restricted group dropped out or failed to adhere to the schedule, compared to just 28% in the control group.[2]
