Why it matters

For millions of business travelers, corporate booking portals have historically meant sacrificing hotel loyalty perks and the ability to customize a stay. This direct integration forces the corporate travel industry to finally support the personalized, attribute-based shopping experience that consumers already expect from leisure travel.

Millions of business travelers spend roughly a third of their year on the road, yet the corporate booking portals they are forced to use routinely strip away their hard-earned hotel loyalty status the moment they log in. When an employee searches for a room through a legacy online booking tool, the system typically pulls static rates from a third-party aggregator, severing the direct link to the hotel's central database. This disconnect means the traveler cannot see their points balance, cannot apply their elite status for an upgrade, and cannot purchase specific room attributes like late check-out or breakfast during the booking process.[4]

On September 10, 2026, corporate travel platform Spotnana announced a direct integration with Marriott International that fundamentally rewires this architecture. By connecting directly to Marriott's central reservation system, the integration gives corporate travel managers and employees seamless access to real-time pricing, live inventory, and detailed property content across 10,000 Marriott properties worldwide. Spotnana is the first corporate booking technology company to deliver verified loyalty linking with the Marriott Bonvoy program, allowing travelers to securely connect their personal loyalty accounts to their corporate profiles.[1][2]

Authenticated account linking allows the Spotnana platform to instantly recognize a traveler's Marriott Bonvoy tier status, display their current points balance, and identify Marriott Bonvoy credit card holders. "Spotnana's direct integration with Marriott raises the bar for corporate travel programs by giving travelers a seamless experience from the moment they book to the end of their stay," said Hillary Dallas, Head of Global Travel & Events at Amazon. "With clear visibility into negotiated rates, loyalty benefits, and self-service tools, travelers can more easily manage their trip wherever they are in their journey."[5][7]

The integration solves a longstanding system fragmentation problem in the hospitality industry. Historically, a single hotel property might operate on three separate reservation systems and three separate payment systems for its rooms, restaurants, and parking facilities. Because legacy corporate booking tools could not map into all of these disparate property management and revenue systems, they offered a simplified, bundled room rate. If a traveler wanted to upgrade their room or add a meal, they had to do it at the front desk, meaning the corporate travel program lost visibility into that spending.[4]

Legacy corporate booking tools historically severed the connection to a hotel's central reservation system.

By bridging the central reservation system and the corporate booking tool, Marriott and Spotnana are laying the foundation for attribute-based shopping. Rather than presenting a room rate as a single bundled price, attribute-based retailing allows employees to see and purchase specific add-ons at the time of booking. According to a March 2026 survey of 187 travel managers across North America and Europe conducted by Spotnana and the Global Business Travel Association, 51 percent of buyers said attribute-based shopping would improve the hotel experience for business travelers.[6]

By bridging the central reservation system and the corporate booking tool, Marriott and Spotnana are laying the foundation for attribute-based shopping.

The survey data highlights exactly what corporate travelers want to buy during the booking path: 66 percent of buyers expressed interest in adding parking, 64 percent wanted breakfast options, and 62 percent wanted the ability to secure early check-in. To facilitate this without violating corporate expense policies, the integration supports the concept of split pay. This feature allows an employee to charge the approved base room rate to their corporate card while simultaneously charging an out-of-policy amenity—like a premium suite upgrade or a spa treatment—to their personal credit card in a single transaction.[6]

Travel managers report high demand for unbundled, attribute-based hotel amenities during the booking process.

Travel buyers estimate that 32 percent of their travelers would utilize split pay if it were available. Combined with richer add-on content and greater pricing transparency at the point of booking, split pay reduces leakage—the industry term for when employees abandon the corporate booking tool to find a better experience directly on a hotel's website. When employees book outside the approved channel, the company loses both the booking data and the ability to track the traveler for duty-of-care purposes during an emergency.[6]

The direct connection also shifts the burden of customer service away from call centers and back to the traveler. Because Spotnana communicates directly with Marriott's proprietary technology platform, travelers can modify or cancel their bookings directly within the Spotnana app without needing agent assistance. If an agent is required, travel management companies can efficiently handle servicing requests via Spotnana's built-in agent desktop, which now features real-time visibility into traveler booking changes made through Marriott channels.[2][3]

"Marriott is committed to providing corporate customers with innovative technologies that simplify the travel experience," said Shannon Patterson, Chief Commercial Performance Officer at Marriott International. "Spotnana's modern infrastructure unleashes new capabilities like Reservation Delivery, providing customers with real-time visibility into traveler booking changes made through Marriott channels. This innovation helps customers better support their travelers and manage spend, and reinforces Marriott's leadership in next generation corporate travel distribution."[3][5]

Split pay features allow travelers to charge base rates to a corporate card and upgrades to a personal card.

The September 2026 announcement builds on a foundation laid in 2024, when the two companies launched Business Access by Marriott Bonvoy, an online travel booking program tailored for small-to-midsized enterprises. That earlier program provided access to discounted Marriott rates alongside flights, rail, and rental cars. The new direct integration scales that capability up to enterprise-level clients, offering corporate negotiated rates bookable directly through the platform.[4][7]

Spotnana partners can instantly activate the direct integration using configurable content controls within the platform. The next verifiable checkpoint for the corporate travel industry is whether other major global hotel groups will follow Marriott's lead and open their central reservation systems to direct corporate integration, or if the fragmented legacy of property management systems will keep their loyalty programs locked out of the business booking path.[2][4]

Where opinion splits

Corporate Travel Managers

Travel buyers prioritize visibility and compliance over individual perks.

For travel buyers, the primary goal is visibility and compliance. When employees abandon the corporate booking tool because it lacks loyalty integration or upgrade options, the company loses track of that spending and the traveler's location. By bringing consumer-grade features into the approved platform, managers hope to reduce this 'leakage' and maintain their duty-of-care obligations.

Hotel Operators

Major chains want to sell high-margin add-ons directly to business travelers.

Major hotel chains have long been frustrated by the limitations of legacy corporate booking tools, which force them to sell commoditized, bundled room rates. Direct integrations allow operators to bypass third-party aggregators and sell high-margin, attribute-based add-ons directly to the lucrative business travel segment.

Business Travelers

Road warriors want their earned elite status recognized regardless of how the room was booked.

Road warriors view the integration as a long-overdue fix to a broken system. For years, travelers have had to choose between following corporate policy and receiving the elite status perks they earned. The ability to link loyalty accounts and manage bookings via self-service removes a major friction point from the business travel experience.
