Global Baseball Power Rankings: Brewers and SoftBank Hawks Dominate the September Stretch

With the Milwaukee Brewers crossing the 98-win threshold and the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks locking up the Pacific League pennant, the global baseball hierarchy is officially set for October. Less than two weeks remain in the 2026 regular season, and the playoff brackets across Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball are rapidly solidifying. The pretenders have faded, the 100-loss candidates are booking tee times, and a clear upper echelon of juggernauts has emerged.

If there is a consensus undisputed heavyweight champion of the world right now, it resides in Wisconsin. The Milwaukee Brewers have been an absolute wagon, sitting at an MLB-best 98-58. They have already clinched their fourth consecutive National League Central title, and they are doing it with a terrifying combination of youth and power.[3]

Outfielder Jackson Chourio is cementing his superstar status, but the real story is on the mound. Jacob Misiorowski is throwing pure gas and has emerged as a legitimate Cy Young frontrunner. Looking across the Pacific, the most dominant team on the planet might actually be the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks. The Hawks have already clinched the NPB Pacific League pennant with a staggering 84-46-3 record, boasting a .646 winning percentage that laps the rest of the league.[7]

In the NPB Central League, the race is significantly tighter. The Hanshin Tigers (71-58-1) are currently fending off the Yomiuri Giants, holding a narrow lead as they push toward the Climax Series. Hanshin's pitching staff has been the difference-maker in a grueling 143-game campaign.[7]

Back in the States, the Chicago Cubs (87-69) remain the ultimate wild card. They became the first MLB team to cross the 800-run threshold this season, powered by Pete Crow-Armstrong, who just became only the second left-handed hitter in franchise history to launch 40 home runs in a single campaign.[3][4]
