Cal Field Hockey Sweeps Michigan Trip to Reach 5-0, Sets Up Showdown With No. 1 Northwestern

A single penalty corner in the third quarter was all it took for the No. 18 California Golden Bears to upend the national field hockey hierarchy. Sweeping a grueling Big Ten road trip, Cal dispatched No. 8 Michigan and Michigan State to improve to 5-0 for the first time since 2011.[1]

The defining moment of the weekend arrived in Ann Arbor on Friday, September 11. Locked in a scoreless defensive battle against the eighth-ranked Wolverines, Cal broke through in the third quarter. The Bears faced a different kind of test two days later in East Lansing. Michigan State broke a scoreless tie in the third quarter when Bianca Pizano found the back of the cage. Cal responded less than five minutes later with a top-shelf equalizer from Agustina Daud.[1][6]
