The condition that has to hold for any four-day workweek to function is whether an organization measures its output by deliverables or by hours of availability. If a company bills by the hour or requires continuous physical coverage, cutting time directly cuts revenue. But for knowledge work, the traditional 40-hour week is increasingly being replaced by two competing models: the 32-hour reduced schedule and the 40-hour compressed schedule.[4]
