Nelly Korda has officially secured the 2026 LPGA Rolex Player of the Year award, wrapping up the tour's top honor with three tournaments still remaining on the schedule. The 28-year-old American clinched the title Tuesday after her closest mathematical challengers failed to enter the upcoming field in Florida.[1][4]
The achievement marks Korda's second Player of the Year honor in three seasons, following her 2024 campaign. She dominated the 2026 season with four victories, including two major championships at The Chevron Championship in April and the U.S. Women's Open at Riviera Country Club in June.[4][5]
Her performance at the U.S. Women's Open served as the defining moment of her season. Korda held off a late charge from Charley Hull to secure the Harton S. Semple Trophy, cementing her status as the top player in the women's game.[4][5]
Korda amassed 239 points in the season standings, building an insurmountable 63-point advantage over South Korea's Haeran Ryu. The race officially ended at Tuesday's 5 p.m. entry deadline for The Annika tournament, leaving Ryu, Jeeno Thitikul, and Miyu Yamashita without enough remaining starts to close the gap.[1][4][5]
The Hall of Fame Threshold
Beyond the seasonal hardware, the award carries massive historical weight for Korda's career trajectory. The Player of the Year honor grants her one point toward the LPGA Hall of Fame, bringing her career total to 26 points and placing her on the brink of enshrinement.[1][5]
The LPGA requires 27 points for Hall of Fame qualification, making it one of the most exclusive clubs in professional sports. Players earn one point for a regular tour victory, two points for a major championship, and one point for seasonal awards like Player of the Year or an Olympic gold medal.[1][5]
Korda's path to that final 27th point is now unusually clear for the remainder of 2026. Because she has not met the minimum rounds requirement to qualify for the Vare Trophy—awarded for the tour's lowest scoring average—she cannot earn a point through that avenue.[5]
Two Chances Remaining in 2026
To qualify for the Hall of Fame this year, Korda must win one of her two remaining scheduled starts. She is slated to tee it up at The Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican, followed by the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida.[1][5]
"The prestigious Rolex Player of the Year Award was introduced to the LPGA in 1966, and each year, the recipient earns one point toward the LPGA Hall of Fame," the LPGA noted in its official Tuesday release. Korda will formally receive the award on November 17.[1]
Korda's 2026 campaign began with a victory at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in January. She maintained a relentless pace throughout the year, missing only one cut across 14 starts while leading the tour with more than $6.2 million in official earnings.[4]
Her scoring average of 69.38 also leads the LPGA Tour, underscoring a level of consistency that her peers could not match. Despite skipping the tour's four-week fall Asian swing, Korda had built enough of an advantage to comfortably watch the Player of the Year race conclude from afar.[4][5]
By wrapping up the award early, Korda joins rare company in the modern era. She is the only player in the last decade to clinch the Player of the Year honor with three events remaining on the schedule twice, matching her own early finish from 2024.[4][5]
The Chasing Pack
The chasing pack simply ran out of runway as the season entered its final month. Ryu kept her slim hopes alive with a runner-up finish at the BMW Ladies Championship in October, but a subsequent withdrawal from the Maybank Championship effectively ended her bid for the top honor.[1]
Thitikul and Yamashita both recorded four victories of their own during the 2026 season, keeping the points race competitive through the fall. However, neither player entered The Annika, leaving them mathematically eliminated from catching Korda's 239-point total with only two starts left on their schedules.[1][4]
Korda now heads to her home state of Florida with a singular focus on securing her 27th point. A victory in either of the final two events would make the 28-year-old the first player to automatically qualify for the Hall of Fame since Lydia Ko reached the threshold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.[1][4][5]
